TLEN 5520/ECEN 5032 - Wireless Data Networks
Timothy X Brown, Spring 2008
What is this course about?
In this course, you will learn about designing and building wireless
data networks. We will explore the reasons that make wireless data
networks special compared to what you learned in previous data
networks courses. The course will give theoretical, practical, and
hands-on understanding of these issues. The course will consist of
lectures combined with discussions of research papers; and
homeworks/labs that will develop useful tools. The centerpiece will be
a semester long team project in which you will work in depth on
particular aspect of wireless data networks.
What do I need to take this course?
You will need to have taken a data networks course such as TLEN 5330
Data Communication I, CSCI 5273 Network Systems,or ECEN 5032
Communication Networks. You will need to be comfortable working with
Linux and have some basic programming skills. Courses such as TLEN 5460
Telecommunication Systems Lab, TLEN 5832 Telecommunications
Programming, or TLEN 5834 Network Programming are useful, but not
necessary. If you are a distance learning student we will make as much
of the hands-on work available to you as possible. When not possible
alternatives will be provided.
