The explosion
in information technologies is creating a growing number of students
seeking technical degrees in the field of telecommunications. To
respond to this need, most educational institutions have simply
increased their size and scope through the addition of faculty,
courses and with the adoption of distance learning through anytime,
anywhere technologies. The key missing element to supporting an
expanded number of students in telecommunications is an interactive,
remotely accessible laboratory experience.
The solution
is to provide remote access to laboratory activities, providing
a means to eliminate the need for physical presence in the laboratory.
Laboratory experiences have long been recognized as essential to
an understanding of technology through their use of problem solving,
experimental learning, and analysis opportunities. Modern lab development
and facilities are costly and difficult to keep up-to-date. Students
are often forced to substitute hands-on lab experiences with demonstrations
or theoretical discussions. For the distant learner, there is no
option whatsoever.
This is the
past, today and tomorrow hold unlimited possibilities
